“The Connect” AV Shuttle Service - Opening to the Public on Tuesday, August 13

“The Connect" AV Shuttle Service, an autonomous, fully electric, and free pilot program, will be open to the public on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, with operations commencing at 7:00 AM. The City of Detroit has obtained an additional $1.67 million in funding from MDOT. This funding will facilitate the addition of a fifth shuttle, leading to reduced wait times and an extension of the pilot service by another year. The shuttle will travel along a 10.8-mile route from Corktown, through downtown Detroit, to the East Jefferson Riverfront, and back. During peak hours, shuttles are expected to arrive approximately every 10-15 minutes. The Connect project is a collaborative initiative involving the City of Detroit, Bedrock, Michigan Central, and the State of Michigan's Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, with Perrone Robotics contributing autonomous vehicle technology.
