GameAbove Empowers Eastern Michigan University To Lead In Cybersecurity

Over 700 students have graduated from EMU’s cybersecurity program with nearly 100% job placement.

YPSILANTI, MI — Cybercrime is not going away. In fact, it is on the rise, posing a growing threat to individuals, businesses, and national security. With an estimated global cost exceeding $10 trillion annually and over 400 million people affected in the U.S. alone, the demand for highly trained cybersecurity professionals has never been greater.

Recognizing this urgent need, GameAbove made a $1.6 million gift in 2023 to support Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) cybersecurity program. This contribution is helping equip students with the skills and ability needed to combat cyber threats and protect critical systems worldwide.

“GameAbove’s interest in the school’s Cybersecurity program is unwavering,” said GameAbove chairman and founder Keith J. Stone. “We recognize the threats to our country and citizens, so anything we can do to help prepare bright young minds to fend off those dangers is worth our financial commitment.

EMU has been at the forefront of cybersecurity education since the program’s inception in 2005. To date, 700 students have graduated from the program, with nearly 100% job placement. EMU students with cybersecurity degrees start their careers at companies such as Google, Amazon, CrowdStrike, General Electric, Cisco, SensCy, Snapchat, Bosch, Textron, Judy Security and more. For consecutive years, EMU’s online cybersecurity master's program has ranked among the top affordable programs for 2025, according to Cybersecurity Guide.

“The demand for cybersecurity experts is increasing every day,” said Mohamad Qatu, dean of Eastern Michigan University’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology. “Thanks to GameAbove’s generous contribution, we have expanded our program, enhanced our resources, and provided our students with cutting-edge technology and training. EMU’s cybersecurity program stands out as one of the best in the world, and our graduates are playing a vital role in strengthening cybersecurity at all levels,” said Qatu.

EMU’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology is one of the few institutions globally offering comprehensive cybersecurity education, from undergraduate and graduate programs to a Ph.D. concentration.

According to industry experts, as cyber threats evolve at an unprecedented pace, organizations face growing challenges safeguarding sensitive data and critical infrastructure.

GameAbove has long recognized the importance of cybersecurity education at EMU. “The institution has built a reputation for excellence in fields such as education, aviation and psychology,” Stone added. “Now, the engineering and technology programs are also gaining national recognition.”
